Trollheim: Gnomes Will Hit Early Access Later This Year
Off-leash Interactive's co-op PvE survival game casts players as a gnome who can befriend or attack the forest's väsen, according to pcgamer.com.
Off-leash Interactive will bring its co-op PvE survival game Trollheim: Gnomes to early access later this year, according to pcgamer.com. The studio detailed how its väsen system works ahead of that release.
Players control a small Sprýg Gnome who seeks a new home after being driven from Midgård. The forest the gnomes settle in is inhabited by creatures the developers collectively call väsen, among them faeries, sirens and trolls.
Game director Jojje Dalunde said the studio describes its NPCs as neighbors rather than enemies. Players can choose to be a good or bad neighbor, and the väsen react to how players interact with them. Attacking the väsen is an option, but Dalunde said there are ways to befriend creatures a player has crossed and to make amends.
The game includes foraging, exploring and base-building, along with survival systems such as cold and hunger. Players can build homes in the trees and connect them with ziplines, and they can use a leaf or feathers as a glider.
The neighborly approach sets Trollheim: Gnomes apart from other survival games in the genre. In Valheim, for instance, trolls attack players and their bases, a contrast the article draws between the two games.
