Valve's Mike Morasky Mentions HLX at GameSoundCon Panel
The Valve composer said HLX has its own version of HDR during a Q&A, prompting colleague David Feise to react on stage.
Valve composer and audio artist Mike Morasky mentioned HLX during a panel at the latest GameSoundCon, according to GamesRadar. Speaking on Valve's approach to an open and flexible audio engine, Morasky said during the Q&A that Deadlock has its own version of HDR and added that HLX has its own version.
Morasky was joined on the panel by Valve sound designers David Feise and Carlye Nyte. Feise appeared to whisper "nice work" after the remark, then said the topic would need its own one-hour talk.
HLX has been rumored for years, and Valve has referred to it in passing before. The mention at GameSoundCon is the latest of those brief references rather than an announcement.
Morasky has officially worked only on Half-Life: Alyx within the Half-Life series. In a 2023 interview, he mentioned "both the Half-Life games" he had worked on before correcting himself to "well, game."
