Where Dolls Hang Uses Real Photographs for Doll Models

Steelkrill Studio says some doll models in its upcoming survival horror game were created using real photographs, which also appear in the game.

Steelkrill Studio has revealed that some of the doll models in its upcoming survival horror game Where Dolls Hang were created using real photographs of dolls from Mexico's Isla de las Muñecas. The studio shared the detail as part of its promotion for the first-person game, which is set to launch in 2026.

The photographs used to build the doll models can also be found around inside the game itself, according to GameSpot. Players will encounter both the resulting models and the source images during their time with the title.

Where Dolls Hang is a solo-developed project from Steelkrill Studio. It is scheduled for a 2026 release and is available to wishlist now on Steam.

Background

The dolls of Isla de las Muñecas have been the subject of local folklore for decades. In October 2025, the game was featured in the Horror Game Awards' showcase this past summer. The island's history involves caretaker Don Julian Santana, who spent much of his life fishing plastic dolls out of the water near his home to honor the spirit of a drowned little girl, a story some have questioned.
