Blizzard Promises Layering Fixes for World of Warcraft: Forever Before Launch

Blizzard says players will stay grouped on boats and zeppelins and large groups won't be layered when entering or leaving capital cities.

Blizzard has said that the layering system in World of Warcraft: Forever will receive significant improvements ahead of the game's launch, according to GameSpot. The changes are aimed at reducing the abrupt layer switches that separated players from others during the beta.

According to Blizzard, the updates will prevent players from being separated from others they see on transports such as boats and zeppelins after loading screens. Large groups of players will also no longer be layered when they enter or leave capital cities.

Blizzard added that some amount of layering will always occur within its high-capacity infrastructure, and that it will keep making improvements through launch and beyond. World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026.

Beta complaints

During the beta, players repeatedly complained about frequent layer switches when leaving groups, crossing zones or traveling on zeppelins and boats. In a clip posted to the WoW Classic subreddit, a group of players riding the boat from Kalimdor to Eastern Kingdoms abruptly changed layers and were killed by hostile players.

Separately, in other World of Warcraft: Forever news, Blizzard announced a new server option for PvP-minded players. The company has not shared further details on when the layering improvements will be fully implemented.
