WoW Souls Mod Adds Dark Souls Combat to World of Warcraft

Modder Jabe Games showed two videos of WoW Souls, a single-player prototype that reads WoW 1.12 and Dark Souls Remastered installs to bring Soulslike combat to Northshire Valley.

Modder Jabe Games is developing WoW Souls, a single-player prototype that adds Soulslike combat to World of Warcraft, and published two videos this week showing it running in Northshire Valley, the starting area for the human race, according to wccftech.com.

The prototype contains no game files. Instead, it reads the user's installations of World of Warcraft 1.12 and Dark Souls Remastered. It runs on benilla, an open-source client based on WoW 1.12 written from scratch in Rust and Bevy and co-developed with Claude. In the second and most recent video, Jabe Games listed the Everwood benilla fork, which improves World of Warcraft visuals including lighting and shadows, sky, fog, atmosphere, water, post-processing, weather and nature.

Combat pulls directly from Dark Souls Remastered. The player character uses the straight sword moves, with light attacks on R1 chaining three moves, R2 performing a heavy attack, and a light press after a roll starting the rolling attack. All animations and timings, along with stamina costs and damage multipliers, come from Dark Souls data. The dodge uses the Dark Souls roll animation with its invincibility frames and root motion.

The camera orbits the player character in Souls-style and includes a lock-on feature that keeps it on the target while the player can strafe and backpedal around it. Each hit freezes the frame for a moment and shows damage numbers over an enemy health bar.

Dying leaves the souls carried with the corpse, and the character respawns at the nearby Abbey and runs back to pick them up.
