Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake Gives Mask of Truth Mind-Reading Power
Nintendo's full remake of the N64 classic launched November 5, 2026, adding free camera control, voice ocarina input and a Mask of Truth that reads NPC thoughts.
Nintendo released a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, according to Automaton Media. The remake gives the Mask of Truth a new function: wearing it lets the player hear the inner thoughts of characters.
The thoughts vary by character. Among the unnamed NPCs, the revealed lines include a man fake-laughing at a friend's failure story, a woman hiding a threat that she will not forgive cheating, a man planning to buy out a stall, and a girl chasing Cuccos who actually wants to eat them.
Named characters also have readable thoughts, including Saria, Mido, Malon, Darunia and Princess Ruto. Those lines are relatively mild compared with the darker thoughts of the unnamed NPCs.
Other changes in the remake
The remake adds free camera control, manual jumping and dashing, and ocarina input by voice. The Mask of Truth becomes available after completing the Happy Mask Shop event, which opens after a soldier event on Death Mountain Trail near Kakariko Village.
In the 1998 Nintendo 64 original and its 2011 Nintendo 3DS remake, wearing the Mask of Truth only let the player read Gossip Stone rumours, and characters reacted only to the mask being worn. A similar mask appears in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, where it can hear animals' thoughts.
