Boyle Says 28 Years Later Part III Is on the Back Burner
Danny Boyle said the third 28 Years Later film is stalled, with Alex Garland busy on an Elden Ring movie and The Bone Temple's $58.5 million complicating it.
Danny Boyle said that 28 Years Later Part III is on the back burner, with Alex Garland occupied by an Elden Ring movie and the sequel's box office performance complicating a third film, according to slashfilm.com.
Garland, who wrote the earlier entries in the series, is currently filming an Elden Ring movie for A24. Boyle, meanwhile, is promoting his own film Ink.
The second chapter, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, was directed by Nia DaCosta and took in $58.5 million worldwide. Cillian Murphy's Jim returned in that film, with Alife Williams playing Spike.
Sony Pictures had agreed to make the first two films of the trilogy back-to-back. In 2002, 28 Days Later began the series. Last year, Boyle and Garland reunited for 28 Years Later, which took in $151 million worldwide against a budget in the $60 million range.
The Bone Temple drew $58.5 million globally on a similar budget, and only about a six-month gap separated the two installments after a 17-year wait.
