Jessica Biel to executive produce 7th Heaven reboot for CBS Studios

Biel, who played Mary Camden, says the new series will tackle technology, bullying, drugs and alcohol, and she will not reprise her role.

Jessica Biel is executive producing a new version of 7th Heaven that is in development at CBS Studios, she said, outlining plans to update the family drama for today's teenagers and parents. Biel will produce through her Iron Ocean banner.

The reboot intends to address technology-based issues as well as school and bullying problems, and drugs and alcohol, Biel said. She added that she wants the series to speak to both teenagers and families.

Biel, who played Mary Camden in the original series, said she will return only as an executive producer and will not reprise the role. She also said she wants to create a safe space for the cast and crew on set.

Deadline reported her comments. 7th Heaven ran for 11 seasons from 1996 to 2007, first on The WB and then on The CW, and was created by Aaron Spelling.

In 2014, Stephen Collins, who played Reverend Eric Camden, admitted he sexually assaulted three underage girls but was never charged. Most of the original cast have distanced themselves from Collins.
