Alex Gibney's Musk Documentary Arrives on Digital Platforms
The nearly four-hour documentary is now available to rent or buy on Prime Video and Apple TV, with extended-cut Blu-ray and DVD editions set for December 29.
Alex Gibney's documentary Musk became available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV on November 6, 2026, according to comingsoon.net. The digital debut comes roughly four weeks after the film's limited theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
The documentary runs nearly four hours. Musk himself does not appear in the film; Gibney instead created a computer-generated version of him.
Blu-ray and DVD editions are scheduled for December 29, 2026, both listed as extended cuts.
The film features interviews with Musk's first wife Justine Musk, former partner Ashley St. Clair, Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard, AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton and journalists Kara Swisher and Zoë Schiffer. Michael J. Palmer is credited as co-writer, with Jessie Deeter, Erin Edeiken, Ronan Farrow and Lawrence Wright as producers.
Gibney began developing the project four years before release, initially with an appreciation for Musk's work in electric vehicles and clean energy. On Rotten Tomatoes, the documentary holds a 96% Tomatometer score and an 81% Popcornmeter score, and Musk has threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against Gibney.
