Along with the Gods: Life and Death confirmed as third film

Dexter Studios has announced that a third film in the Along with the Gods series is in the works under the title Along with the Gods: Life and Death, according to cinemacafe.net. Kim Yong-hwa, who directed the first two installments, has confirmed the project as his next film and has begun preparations with a target of starting shooting in the second half of 2027.

Dexter Studios will again take part in the production as an investor. The new film is set in Kuchon, described as a place where souls with lingering attachments cannot leave for the afterlife. The story follows Sol, who stands between life and death, searching for a song she could not finish singing while traveling through nine worlds.

The announcement comes eight years after the previous installment was released, and the studio has indicated that there may be major casting changes for the lead actors.

Earlier chapters set box-office marks

The first film, Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, drew 14.41 million admissions. The second, Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days, recorded 1,246,692 admissions on its opening day — the highest in Korean film history — and finished with 12.27 million admissions, making the series the first Korean franchise with both its first and second installments above 10 million admissions.

The two films rank first and second in all-time Korean film box office in Taiwan, and the second set opening-day records for Korean films in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The series has also collected director, technical and visual effects awards at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, the Daejong Film Awards, the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Korean Film Critics Association Awards.
