Avengers: Endgame: Encore Tops Box Office With $26M, Infinity Vision Debuts
Disney's Avengers: Endgame: Encore re-release grossed $26 million, with $13.5 million from Infinity Vision screens, marking the first use of the branding.
The re-release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore was the No. 1 movie in America over the weekend, grossing $26 million, according to Disney. The film earned $13.5 million on Infinity Vision screens, marking the first use of the Infinity Vision branding.
Infinity Vision is new branding Disney has given to theater screens that meet its audio and visual standards, not a specific format or IMAX. The re-release opened on over 3,000 screens, with over 1,300 certified as meeting Infinity Vision standards. Those screens accounted for 52 percent of the box office from 43 percent of the screens.
Disney's head of theatrical distribution, Andrew Cripps, said at least two circuits are actively upgrading screens to become certified Infinity Vision, including several Cinemark screens in Latin America upgrading to Dolby 7.1 audio.
The branding push comes as Disney prepares for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens on December 18 and will not play on IMAX screens because Dune: Part Three opens the same day and has IMAX reservations. IndieWire previously reported that Avengers: Doomsday had brought in $50 million in pre-sales, with a large chunk of that on Infinity Vision screens, representing 73 percent of all pre-sales.
