Kopple's Labor Documentary 'Union Town' Heads to Ji.hlava

The film follows UPS and Amazon workers and app-based deliveristas, and screened earlier at Venice and Toronto.

Barbara Kopple's documentary "Union Town" is heading to the Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival after screenings at Venice and Toronto, according to Variety.

The film follows delivery and warehouse workers employed by UPS and Amazon in the United States, as well as app-based "deliveristas." It is produced by Cabin Creek Films and is being sold by Autlook Filmsales.

Kopple said "Union Town" completes her trilogy on labor rights. She has won two Academy Awards, for "Harlan County U.S.A." and "American Dream," the latter shared with producer Arthur Cohn.

She said the new film will not be dark, because it also documents victories. In October 2025, delivery platform DoorDash agreed to pay $17 million to settle claims that it used customer tips to subsidize workers' wages in New York.

Kopple said that after the pandemic, many delivery workers began to feel they were "disposable." The film includes interviews with workers including William and with Teamster union organizer Tony Rosario.
