Korea Exchange Suspends Trading in Parasite Producer Barunson E&A

Trading in Barunson E&A halted on October 23, 2026, after its share price failed to meet the 1,000 won listing maintenance standard.

The Korea Exchange suspended trading in Barunson E&A shares from October 23, 2026, after a delisting trigger occurred, according to rbbtoday.com. The production company behind the film Parasite

has not been delisted yet. The direct cause was the share price failing to meet the 1,000 won listing maintenance standard, and delisting has not been finalized.

The suspension comes as attention focuses on profitability in the Korean content industry. Netflix's Korean revenue in 2025 reached 1.0542 trillion won, passing 1 trillion won for the first time. Of that, 853.9 billion won, about 81%, was paid to the US headquarters. Netflix Korea's operating profit was 20.3 billion won, a margin of 1.9%.

A South Korean lawmaker, Han Juno, said production companies often earn only about 3-10% of production costs under Netflix original contracts, which typically leave intellectual property with the platform.

Other production companies also reported weak results. Pan Entertainment, producer of When Life Gives You Tangerines, posted 2025 revenue of about 35.1 billion won and an operating loss of about 4.2 billion won. Astory, known for Kingdom and Extraordinary Attorney Woo, recorded an operating loss in the 7 billion won range in 2025.

In 2020, Parasite won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
