Yusuke Santamaria Reveals Daughter in 'Bayside Shakedown' Is Studying at Stanford

The cast of the film Bayside Shakedown N.E.W.: Run Through the Metropolis! held a stage greeting event titled "Mashimo Family Meeting" at United Cinema Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo on October 30, according to cinematoday.jp. Actors Yusuke Santamaria, Miki Mizuno and Takahisa Masuda attended, with Akapen Takigawa serving as MC.

It was the first time the three cast members of the Mashimo family had appeared together in person since filming. Santamaria, who plays Masayoshi Mashimo, revealed that the daughter of the family — a character who has never been shown on screen — is currently studying abroad at Stanford University. He said her name would not be announced and that she may or may not appear in future works.

Mizuno, who plays Yukino Mashimo, described the daughter as a bright student. Masuda, who plays the son Yuki Mashimo, said he had only just learned in the green room that his character has a younger sister.

Santamaria added that he would like to solve cases together with Yuki if there is a next installment, and suggested the daughter is close in age to Yuki and might aim to become a police officer.

Background

The Bayside Shakedown TV series began in 1997 and sparked a nationwide boom. In the third film, Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE 3: Release the Guys!, Santamaria ad-libbed that a second child, a daughter, had been born, creating the character. A live-streamed event was previously held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with only Santamaria and Mizuno, while at the stage greeting on the film's opening day only Masuda attended; the two actors had been sending each other public messages through the media about when they would meet.
