The promotion follows Feldman's recurring role as Kyle, a character viewers first met in the Season 4 episode titled "Kyle." In the Season 5 finale, "Across the Pond," Samantha sold the script to her first film and Kyle agreed to help communicate between the living and dead in her absence. The season ended on a cliffhanger with Kyle serving as the go-between for Jay and ghost Pete during their European mission to save the manor.
Rose McIver, who plays Samantha, announced the birth of her second child and revealed that Samantha will be absent for the beginning of Season 6. The show has followed Samantha as she runs a bed-and-breakfast in an upstate New York mansion for five seasons.
