Black Bear has hired former Paramount executive Dan Cohen as its head of television distribution, the company announced. In his new role, Cohen will oversee post-theatrical distribution of Black Bear's movies.
Alongside the hire, Black Bear is launching Black Bear Digital Networks, a new venture designed to help independent content owners monetize across FAST and AVOD networks. The unit is already working with Sinclair Networks, Tubi, CJ ENM and the National Wrestling Alliance.
Cohen left Paramount just over a year before this article, ahead of the studio's takeover by David Ellison's Skydance. At Paramount, he served as Chief Content Licensing Officer and President of Republic Pictures.
Black Bear, founded by Teddy Schwarzman, has been building its brand for 15 years. Its recent deals include Tuner, starring Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman, on Paramount+, and Ric Roman Waugh's Shelter and Guy Ritchie's In The Grey with Starz.
