Dark Horse Announces Blue Eye Samurai Prequel Comic

Blue Eye Samurai: Cry of the Yurei, a four-part canon miniseries, begins February 3, 2027, ahead of Season 2 on Netflix.

Dark Horse Comics has announced Blue Eye Samurai: Cry of the Yurei, a four-part comic miniseries that serves as a canon prequel to the animated series. The first issue arrives on February 3, 2027, according to screenrant.com.

The prequel is written by K. Perkins and Mike Johnson, with art by Aviv Or and Valentina Bianconi. Issue #1 is expected to run 32 pages and carry a price of $4.99. Cover art comes from David Mack, with variant covers by Ito and Angela Wu.

The story follows a young Mizu and introduces two new characters: Daisuke, described as the story's main antagonist, and Sachiko, a housemaid and ally to Mizu. Dark Horse says the series was developed in consultation with the show's creators and remains part of the canon.

Timing alongside the animated series

The comic lands shortly before Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 premieres on Netflix in January 2027, roughly four years after the first season. The second season will follow Mizu on a sea voyage to London and will consist of six episodes.

Netflix has also confirmed a third and final season, slated for 2028.
