Brian Duffield Denies Involvement in New Alien Film
While promoting Whalefall at NYCC, Brian Duffield told Collider he is not directing or working on a new Alien prequel, addressing recent rumors.
Brian Duffield has denied that he is currently working on or directing a new Alien film. He made the comments while promoting his new movie Whalefall at New York Comic Con, speaking to Collider's Maggie Lovitt, according to Collider. Duffield was asked about rumors that he was involved in a separate Alien prequel film.
"I'm not currently working on a new Alien film," Duffield said. "I'm not directing Alien." The statement came during a press event for Whalefall, his upcoming project, but he did not elaborate on the source of the rumors.
Franchise activity continues elsewhere
While Duffield's denial closes the door on his involvement, other Alien projects remain active. In October 2025, it was reported that a sequel to Alien: Romulus entered development without director Fede Álvarez returning, and Noah Hawley's prequel series Alien: Earth was greenlit for a second season, now filming with Peter Dinklage and Jerome Flynn.
Earlier in the franchise, Alien: Romulus became a box-office hit and was considered the best entry since Aliens. Ridley Scott also proposed a third chapter in his Prometheus trilogy, though no new proposal has been reported. Details on a potential Alien: Isolation 2 were also announced as becoming a reality.
