Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis are teaming up for Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, a four-issue comic series, Collider reports.
The story follows the Bride as she survives her own creation and sets out to work out who she is — while the people she meets along the way offer their own answers to that question.
Thompson had a different title in mind. She originally wanted to call the series The Bride[s] of Frankenstein, with the "s" tucked into brackets, and made an impassioned plea for it. In the end, she understood the practical reasons against it, including how hard that title would be to search for.
A character with a short on-screen life
The Bride's screen history is famously brief. She appeared for only a few minutes in the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, coming into existence, recoiling from the Creature, and disappearing almost immediately.
The new series gives her a much longer story to tell.
