The Bythewoods will take part in special programming at The New School, Urbanworld's Innovation Summit partner. A spotlight moment at Regal Union Square will highlight Gina Prince-Bythewood's upcoming film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, set for release on January 15, 2027.
Verona Cesair Jones is leading the festival for her first year as festival director.
Long ties to Urbanworld
Prince-Bythewood's history with the festival dates back years: Urbanworld screened her adaptation of The Secret Life of Bees in 2008, and the 2014 edition opened with her romance drama Beyond the Lights. She also brought ESPN's 30 for 30 episode "One Night in Vegas" to the festival in 2010 and the BET TV movie Gun Hill in 2013. The pair attended in 2023 in support of NatGeo's Genius: MLK/X.
