Cappu Films Takes International Sales on 'A Grim Life' at TIFFCOM

The supernatural thriller stars Joseph Mazzello and is written, directed and produced by Francesco Lucente, with shooting planned for January 2027.

Cappu Films has acquired international sales rights to the supernatural thriller A Grim Life, the Hong Kong sales company announced at TIFFCOM, the market of the Tokyo International Film Festival, according to Variety.

Joseph Mazzello leads the cast as Tom, a struggling filmmaker who scrubs toilets while endlessly reworking a single script. When a friend points him toward a lost 1931 silent film titled Böse, his search draws him toward a dark secret.

The ensemble also includes Max Beesley as producer Joe, Wes Studi as Nic, Carl Lumbly as Henry and Arnetia Walker as Chelsea. Francesco Lucente writes, directs and produces the film.

Pre-production is set to begin in December 2026, with shooting planned for January 2027 and delivery penciled for July 2027. Cappu first presented the project to buyers in Busan and is continuing those conversations.

Cappu's wider slate

The company previously handled Lucente's Starbright; the filmmaker also directed the drama Badland. Cappu's slate also includes Lucente's fantasy Sinbad and the action titles Lion Fist and Red Bird.
