Saldanha's '100 Days' to Close Rio Film Festival

Carlos Saldanha's '100 Days' premieres as the Brazilian closing gala of the Rio Film Festival, starring Filipe Bragança as rower Amyr Klink.

Carlos Saldanha's film '100 Days' premieres as the Brazilian closing gala of this year's Rio Film Festival, according to Variety.

The film is adapted from Amyr Klink's book 'One Hundred Days Between Sky and Sea'. It stars Filipe Bragança as Klink and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as his mother, Asa. Felipe Camargo and João Silva play Klink's father and brother respectively.

'100 Days' chronicles Klink's 1984 solo journey from Africa to Brazil across the South Atlantic in a tiny rowing boat.

A project years in the making

Klink took one hundred days to cross the Atlantic. Saldanha worked on the film for nearly a decade; producer Paula Consenza brought the project to him before the pandemic, when he was working on 'Ferdinand'. Saldanha reworked the script with Elena Soarez and Thais Tavares, and development was slowed by the pandemic. Production finished shooting two years ago, followed by special-effects work with teams in São Paulo and Finland.

Saldanha's earlier work includes 'Ice Age', 'Rio' and 'Ferdinand', as well as Netflix's 'Invisible City'. Leroy-Beaulieu came to Brazil for two weeks to shoot.
