Channel 4 CEO Open to Putting Shows on BBC iPlayer

Priya Dogra says Channel 4 is open to BBC iPlayer, but ad-funded content would need to be accommodated as the broadcaster cuts 340 jobs.

Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra has said she is open to putting the broadcaster's shows on BBC iPlayer, signalling a possible thaw in relations between the two public-service rivals.

Dogra told Deadline that any such arrangement would have to accommodate Channel 4's business model, since its content is monetised by advertising.

Her comments follow BBC boss Matt Brittin's remark in July that Channel 4 needed to work with the BBC. Dogra, however, dismissed talk of a merger, describing it as a takeover by the BBC.

The stance comes as Channel 4 navigates financial pressure. The broadcaster has announced 340 job cuts, and Dogra said non-programming costs have risen from 30p in the pound to 40p in the pound over five years.

Dogra added that she hopes to appoint Channel 4's new director of programmes in the coming weeks. She also said she has not yet seen independent reports about Married at First Sight following rape allegations on the reality series.
