Clayface Actor Says Batman Footage Exists for Gotham Setting

Tom Rhys Harries says footage related to Batman's presence in Gotham City was shot for Clayface, following long discussions about it.

Tom Rhys Harries, who plays Matt Hagen in Clayface, said footage related to Batman's presence in Gotham City exists for the film, according to an interview with ComicBook. Director James Watkins said discussions about that presence took place at length.

Harries and co-star Naomi Ackie, who plays Caitlyn Corr, also discussed whether their characters are aware of Batman in Gotham City.

Watkins said the film deals with Batman's presence in Matt Hagen's origin story, and he described the visual approach as influenced by 1980s and 1990s street photography, including Everybody Street.

In October 2025, Watkins told SFX magazine that Clayface addresses Batman's presence in Matt Hagen's origin story. The animated series Creature Commandos previously included a Batman cameo, which was the first glimpse of the character in James Gunn's DCU continuity, and the DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters lineup has included Supergirl after Milly Alcock's cameo in 2025's Superman, and HBO's Lanterns.
