Clive Barker Says Hellraiser: Revival Game Gave Him Film Ideas
The writer behind the original Hellraiser said he plans to stay involved with the franchise after Saber Interactive's new game.
Clive Barker said the video game Hellraiser: Revival has given him many ideas for the Hellraiser film franchise, and that he intends to stay involved with the series. The writer and director of the original 1987 film made the comments in an interview with Dread Central.
Barker said the game, released recently by Saber Interactive, demonstrates that existing worlds can be revisited in a new way. He did not give details on what those ideas are or how they might be used.
The franchise began with Barker's 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart. He then wrote and directed the first Hellraiser movie in 1987, which introduced the character Pinhead, played by Doug Bradley.
Since then, Hellraiser has produced 11 movies as well as books, comics and video games. In 2020, Barker reclaimed the U.S. rights to the franchise, and in 2022 he joined the David Bruckner-directed Hulu reboot as a producer.
