France's CNC Doubles Oscar Campaign Aid, Taps Sébastien Cauchon
The CNC is doubling financial aid for Oscar campaigns and has appointed Sébastien Cauchon to lead the push for Minotaur, France's international feature submission.
France's Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) has announced a new strategy to raise the profile of French films and talent in the Academy Awards race, according to Variety. The plan includes doubling the financial aid granted to Oscar campaigns.
As part of the push, the CNC has appointed Sébastien Cauchon as its Academy Awards liaison. Cauchon will lead the Oscar campaign for Minotaur, directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, which will represent France in the race.
Cauchon recently founded the Paris-based consultancy Cinema Collectors. He worked on the Oscar-winning campaign for Two People Exchanging Saliva and served as a consultant on Mubi's campaign for The Substance. He also collaborated with Florian Zeller on The Father, which won 2 Oscars.
France has not won the international feature Oscar since Indochine in 1993. In recent years, films such as The Substance, The Father, Flow and Anatomy of a Fall did not represent France in the Oscar race.
