Colin Donnell is returning to Chicago Med as Dr. Connor Rhodes in season 12, according to Screen Rant. The actor will appear in two episodes of the NBC medical drama, marking his first appearance in the One Chicago franchise since a single episode of season 5 in 2019.

In his return episodes, the character Goodwin needs Rhodes' help with a young patient who requires a complicated surgery. His second episode will also serve as the fall finale.

The news broke just days after Chicago Med returned for season 12 in NBC's fall 2026 premiere schedule. The season opened with cast changes, including Sarah Ramos stepping back as Dr. Lenox and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut exiting as Dr. Naomi Howard.

Donnell's character was part of the series' early seasons. Season 4 ended with the death of Connor Rhodes' wealthy father and subsequent suspicion that he had killed him; the season 5 premiere revealed that Ava Bekker, Connor's fellow surgeon, had killed his father hoping to bring her and Connor closer together. Ava Bekker then took her own life with a scalpel in front of Connor in that same premiere.

In season 11, Nick Gehlfuss and Torrey DeVitto returned as Will Halstead and Natalie Manning. Dominic Rains also left the series as Dr. Crockett Marcel.
