Constance Wu: HBO's Crazy Rich Asians Series Shoots in New York Next Year

Constance Wu said she has read the script for HBO's eight-episode Crazy Rich Asians series, which she called really funny, and that production begins next year.

Constance Wu has read a script for HBO's Crazy Rich Asians series and calls it "really funny," according to Deadline. The actress also said the eight-episode show will film in New York City, where she lives, with production starting next year.

Wu is set to reprise her role as Rachel Chu. Henry Golding returns as Nick Young, Ronny Chieng as Eddie Chang, and Michelle Yeoh recurs as Eleanor Sung-Young.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, serves as showrunner and writer on the series. HBO gave the one-hour drama a series order earlier this month, following about two years of development.

From film to series

The original film arrived in 2018, based on Kevin Kwan's book, with Lim among its writers. Kwan's novels provide the source material for the HBO adaptation.

The series is being developed by Lim alongside Jon M. Chu, who directed the 2018 film, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.
