CD Projekt Red: Live-Action Cyberpunk Movie Will Tell a New Story

CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski says the Paramount film won't be a 1:1 adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that its live-action Cyberpunk movie with Paramount will tell a new story set in the Cyberpunk universe rather than retell the plot of Cyberpunk 2077. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company does not want to make a 1:1 adaptation of the game, according to IGN.

The film is being made in partnership with Paramount, which now operates under the Skydance banner after a recent merger. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for the live-action Transformers films, will produce.

That approach keeps the movie separate from the game's existing narrative, including the story of protagonist V. Johnny Silverhand, the character played by Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, is also part of the game's established plot.

More Cyberpunk on the way

Separately, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 launches on Netflix on October 20, 2026. The first season was a Studio Trigger-led anime series.
