Cyprus has selected 'Hold Onto Me' as its first-ever entry in the Best International Feature category at the 99th Academy Awards. The film marks the feature debut of director Myrsini Aristidou.
'Hold Onto Me' premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award. The story follows a young girl named Iris who reconnects with her estranged father Aris after running amok in her hometown with her older friend Danae.
Aristidou's previous work includes the short 'Semele,' which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival, and 'Aria,' made with support from Spike Lee, which premiered at the 2017 Venice Film Festival.
Countries have until Wednesday, September 30, 2026 to submit films for Best International Feature. Oscars shortlists will be announced on Tuesday, December 15, 2026. The 2027 Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 21. The 99th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027.
