Taiwan fund Daily Capital launches at TIFFCOM with first project
Daily Capital is targeting NT$100 million and plans at least five film, TV and animation investments in its first two years, Variety reported.
Daily Capital, a Taiwan-Japan film and television fund, launched on the opening day of the TIFFCOM market during a "Taiwan Originals: Project Showcase" event, and named "Love Ends in Bloom" as its first investment, according to Variety.
The fund is targeting NT$100 million, about $3.1 million. It plans to invest in at least five film, television and animation projects within its first two years, and expects to begin operations by the end of the year. Fundraising has reached 70% of the target.
"Love Ends in Bloom" is a 10-episode series set in 1930s Chiayi and Alishan. Juliana Hsu wrote the series and Sun Jie-heng directs. Filming is scheduled to begin in February 2027, with a mid-2028 release target.
Origins in Chiayi
In 2023, Chang Chen-yu, the founder of Daily Capital, returned to his hometown of Chiayi while the railway station was under renovation, which led to the project's conception, according to Variety. In a previous interview with the outlet, Chang said Taiwan, Japan and Korea are rarely seen together in one narrative despite their proximity.
Hsu's earlier credits include the period drama "Gold Leaf," and Sun previously directed the wartime historical drama "Three Tears in Borneo."
