Danny Boyle Says 28 Years Later: Part III on Hold Pending Financing

Boyle said at the London Film Festival that the third film depends on locked-in financing and Alex Garland's schedule.

Danny Boyle said 28 Years Later: Part III is currently on the back burner during a Q&A at the London Film Festival, according to Deadline. The director said he hopes the film will be made if financing can be locked in.

Boyle said the pause in the series was also prompted by Alex Garland's busy schedule. Garland, who wrote the earlier films in the series, is currently working on A24's big-screen adaptation of the video game Elden Ring.

Boyle added that his next priority is an Antarctica-set film, if he can raise the budget.

The director is at the London Film Festival with his latest feature, Ink, which screens as one of the festival's headline galas. Ink was directed by Boyle from a screenplay by James Graham and charts the rise of the UK tabloid The Sun in the 1970s under editor Larry Lamb.

Boyle said financing for Ink was difficult to raise, with StudioCanal providing the money and Netflix buying it for America. The London Film Festival runs until October 18.
