Mike Flanagan's The Dark Tower TV Series to Start With The Gunslinger

Flanagan has completed the season 1 scripts and says Stephen King is happy with them, but the series has not yet been greenlit.

Mike Flanagan has confirmed that his TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower will begin with the first novel, The Gunslinger, and follow the same chronological order as King's books. Flanagan also said he has finished the scripts for season 1 of the series, according to screenrant.com.

"Stephen King is very happy with the season 1 scripts," Flanagan said. He described the adaptation as remarkably faithful to King's books, with only small changes made for the TV format. However, the series has not yet received an official greenlight.

The Dark Tower is not the only King project on Flanagan's slate. His TV adaptation of King's Carrie was released on Prime Video, and he is also directing and writing a new movie version of King's novella The Mist for Warner Bros.

A previous trip to the Tower

In 2017, Sony released a loosely adapted The Dark Tower movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. The film earned $113 million on an estimated $66 million budget and received mostly negative reviews.

King's The Dark Tower saga includes eight novels, beginning with 1982's The Gunslinger and ending with 2004's The Dark Tower. King published The Wind Through the Keyhole in 2012, which takes place between the fourth and fifth novels.
