Denzel Washington will star in an untitled thriller for United Artists and Amazon MGM Studios, with Christopher McQuarrie set to direct, according to joblo.com. The film is slated for release on October 1, 2027.
The project was previously titled The Frame. Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner wrote the script, and casting is underway for an actress to play Washington's daughter.
The plot follows a former police detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and released to return home to his estranged daughter and a grandson he never knew.
Production is slated to begin in New Jersey in November.
McQuarrie's other projects
McQuarrie wrote Valkyrie in 2008, beginning a long collaboration with Tom Cruise, and went on to direct Jack Reacher and four Mission: Impossible films: Rogue Nation, Fallout, Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning.
Washington had been planning a historical epic about Hannibal with Antoine Fuqua, but the project was put on hold due to budget concerns; earlier this year it was reported to be effectively dead after its budget reportedly swelled to over $200 million.
