Franchise background
A few years ago, the original Dexter series was added to Netflix, beginning the franchise's resurgence. Over 10 years after the original series went off the air, Paramount green-lit new spin-offs. Dexter: New Blood was canceled after one season, and Dexter: Original Sin, starring Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, was originally renewed for Season 2 before Paramount later canceled it. Franchise creator Clyde Phillips confirmed last year that a Trinity Killer spin-off with John Lithgow was no longer in development.
