Digger Debuts at 72% Audience Score, 51% Critics on Rotten Tomatoes

Digger has debuted with a 72% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 250 ratings, according to screenrant.com. That stands in contrast to its 51% critics' score on the same site, while CinemaScore gave the film a C+ grade.

The Warner Bros. release is projected to earn 8 million USD domestically on its opening weekend, against a budget of 160-180 million USD. Digger is now playing in theaters.

The film is Alejandro G. Iñárritu's first English-language comedy and was co-written with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. It stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons in supporting roles.

Warner Bros. released a trailer referencing the mixed reception with the phrase "You decide."

The divided response marks a shift for Tom Cruise. In October 2017, The Mummy received a 15% critics' score and 35% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, while American Made that same year received an 85% critics' score and 79% audience score. In July 2018, Mission: Impossible - Fallout earned a 98% critics' score and 89% audience score; in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick received a 96% critics' score and 99% audience score; in 2023, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning received a 96% critics' score and 94% audience score; and in 2025, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning received an 80% critics' score and 88% audience score.

What's next for Warner Bros. and Cruise

Digger will be Warner Bros.' final movie as an independent studio before its merger with Paramount under Skydance. Cruise is set to return to the action genre with the Days of Thunder sequel, starring Anne Hathaway.
