Davies Predicts New Doctor Who Era Begins Filming in Summer 2027
Speaking on BBC Radio 4, the former showrunner said a fresh Doctor and companion could start production next summer.
Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies said in an interview on BBC Radio 4 that production on a new era of Doctor Who, featuring a brand-new Doctor and companion, is expected to begin in summer next year, as reported by collider.com.
Davies also said the BBC would choose from the production tenders for the series by around October 10, and added that he is not part of the tender process.
The BBC put Doctor Who out to competitive tender during a turbulent period for British television. Several major names have bid to take over production, most notably Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, whose company Hat Trick Mercurio would look to refresh the series for a new audience in either 2028 or 2029.
Davies returned to Doctor Who after an era under former showrunner Chris Chibnall. The latest iteration of the Time Lord left under a cloud of confusion, and the Disney partnership ended.
