Doha Film Festival Sets Paper Tiger, Furies for Gala Slate

The second edition runs November 19 to 27 and will host the MENA premiere of James Gray's Paper Tiger alongside seven feature galas.

The Doha Film Festival has unveiled seven features for its Gala and Special Screenings lineup, including the MENA premiere of James Gray's Paper Tiger and a festival screening of Rami Kodeih's Furies, according to Deadline.

Paper Tiger, starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, will make its Middle East and North Africa premiere at the festival. Furies, a Beirut-set thriller about two sisters plotting a bank heist, screens after its world premiere in the Venice Spotlight section in September.

Both films were produced by Rodrigo Teixeira under RT Features, with support from the Film Committee at Media City Qatar. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are executive producers on Furies under Smokehouse Pictures.

Other titles on the bill

Further gala titles include Jeffrey Walker's Fing!, Maiken Baird's Edward Said: Between Worlds and Bruno Dumont's Red Rocks. Special Screenings include Abderrahmane Sissako's 360-degree immersive film Artou, Daniele Rugo's Life Support, Ginevra Elkann's The Roses of Marrakech and Ali El Arabi's 52 Blue.

The festival runs from November 19 to 27. Fatma Hassan Alremaihi is CEO of Doha Film Institute and Director of Doha Film Festival.

The first Doha Film Festival was held last year, with support for the international film business unveiled on its eve. The event expands on the DFI's Ajyal festival, which ran for more than a decade. Artou debuted in Venice's Immersive competition.
