Ridley Scott's Dope Thief Cancelled After One Season
Dope Thief, produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free banner, was never renewed for Season 2, co-producer David W. Zucker has confirmed.
Dope Thief, the streaming series produced by Ridley Scott through his Scott Free banner, was cancelled after one season and never renewed for Season 2. Co-producer David W. Zucker confirmed the show was not continued in an interview with ScreenRant.
Zucker said the series performed relatively well but was not picked up for a second season. The cancellation was not accompanied by a formal announcement, according to Collider.
Scott produced Dope Thief and personally directed an episode. The show premiered early last year on a major streaming service and had significant network backing. It also survived an early production crisis in which a lead actor was replaced after an on-set clash.
Zucker's comments came in an interview about the cancellation in which he said he "never thought we would make Alien: Earth or Blade Runner 2099."
Scott's Other Projects
Earlier this year, Scott returned to sci-fi directing with The Dog Stars, a dystopian epic starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin. He produced FX's Alien: Earth, written and developed by Noah Hawley, after about 10 years away from directing sci-fi. During that period he directed historical epics such as Napoleon and Gladiator II.
