Hedlund, Lacy, Biel to Star in Downriver

Garrett Hedlund, Jake Lacy and Jessica Biel have been cast to star in the dramedy Downriver, produced by Artists Equity Independent Pictures and Hungry Bull Productions, according to Deadline.

Sam Jones directs Downriver from a script he wrote with Carl Hiaasen. The film marks Jones's scripted feature directorial debut.

The story follows a recently divorced writer and his surgeon best friend on a fly-fishing and martinis trip to Montana, where their friendship is tested by a beguiling fishing guide.

Downriver is the second film to emerge from AEIP, the indie label of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Luciana Damon and Gerry Cardinale's Artists Equity, following Julia Cox's A Woman in the Sun. Hungry Bull Productions, founded by Joe Restaino and Tony Stoppera, has credits including Michael Sarnoski's Pig (Neon) and Rebecca Hall's Passing (Netflix).

Hedlund most recently starred in the Paramount+ crime drama Tulsa King, which returns for its fourth season this week, and has upcoming projects including Shana Feste's Netflix mystery thriller Heartland, the Netflix series The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, and the undated Prime Video crime drama Criminal. Lacy stars opposite Emmy Rossum in Hulu's crime drama Furious, renewed for a second season, and appears in Alexandra Pechman's drama Magazine after its TIFF premiere. Biel recently signed to star in Playmates, the Searchlight film inspired by Lorraine Nicholson's experiences growing up at the Playboy Mansion, and stars opposite John Cena in Matchbox: The Movie, which debuted October 9 on Apple TV.
