DR Sales Boards International Sales on Danish Documentary Father's House

The hybrid film, co-directed by Andreas Koefoed, Eva Mulvad and editor Adam Nielsen, mixes fiction, documentary and making-of material.

DR Sales has acquired international distribution rights to the Danish film Father's House, according to Variety. The sales arm of Danish public broadcaster DR will handle the title outside Denmark.

Father's House mixes fiction, documentary and making-of material. Its reenactment scenes star David Dencik and Trine Dyrholm. Dyrholm plays sect leader Ruth Evensen, now known as Ruth Kristiansen, while Dencik plays former member Jerry. Laura Kronborg Kjær plays Camilla, a former member who spent seven years in the sect.

The film is co-directed by Andreas Koefoed, Eva Mulvad and editor Adam Nielsen. It examines Faderhuset, the Danish religious sect Evensen led from the 1990s until its official closure as a religious congregation in 2013. Its starting point was a book by former member Camilla Louise Johnson, who left the group and founded the NGO InsideOut.

Father's House had already been selected for the international documentary competition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and for IDFA's Signed section before the distribution deal. Nielsen previously edited Mulvad's Karlovy Vary-winning documentary The Good Life and Koefoed's The Arms Drop; Koefoed also directed The Lost Leonardo, released by Sony Classics.
