David Lynch's 1984 Dune and Jodorowsky's Dune Land on HBO Max
Both films are now streaming in the U.S. ahead of the theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three.
David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Dune and the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune are now streaming on HBO Max in the U.S., according to screenrant.com. The two titles arrived on the platform ahead of the release of Dune: Part Three.
Lynch's film adapted Frank Herbert's first novel in full and has since developed a cult following. It starred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides, with Patrick Stewart and Dean Stockwell among the supporting cast.
The documentary Jodorowsky's Dune chronicles Alejandro Jodorowsky's unsuccessful attempt to adapt the novel in the 1970s. That planned version cast Orson Welles as Baron Harkonnen, Salvador Dalí as the Emperor and Mick Jagger in an unspecified role, with Jodorowsky's son Brontis as Paul Atreides. Comic book artist Jean Giraud and writer Dan O'Bannon worked on the project, and Pink Floyd agreed to compose music for it.
Denis Villeneuve's Dune, released in 2021, adapted only half of Herbert's first novel and drew praise for Timothée Chalamet's performance as Paul Atreides. Dune: Part Three is set to arrive in theaters next month, on the same day as Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday.
