Dune: Part Three Sets BFI IMAX First-Day Presale Record With 33,000 Tickets

The 33,000 advance admissions at the London venue generated more than £880,000 in gross ticket sales in 24 hours, according to Deadline.

BFI IMAX sold 33,000 advance tickets for Dune: Part Three within 24 hours, setting a first-day presale record for the London venue, according to Deadline. The admissions generated more than £880,000 ($988,000) in gross ticket sales.

The figure puts Denis Villeneuve's film ahead of the venue's previous first-day presale benchmarks: The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, took £750,000 on its first day, while Dune: Part Two reached £366,000.

Dune: Part Three will screen at BFI IMAX in IMAX 70mm, with preview screenings beginning Tuesday 15 December. The film is set nearly two decades after the previous instalment and stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.

Venue's recent run of demand

The record follows a strong stretch for the single-screen cinema. In April, three opening weekend screenings of Dune: Part Three at BFI IMAX sold out in under an hour, and two further preview screenings sold out earlier this month.

The Odyssey was sold out for months at the venue this summer, and by mid August BFI IMAX had sold more than 100,000 admissions for the film, generating £2,683,987 with 95% occupancy to become the cinema's highest-grossing title ever. Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two return to BFI IMAX from Friday 11 December, with the latter projected from an IMAX 70mm print.
