Focus Features Buys Worldwide Rights to Outside Man

The Brian Helgeland film starring Ice Cube and Tommy Lee Jones begins production in November, according to Deadline.

Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to "Outside Man," the film written and directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Ice Cube and Tommy Lee Jones, according to Deadline. Production on the film is set to begin in November.

The deal covers worldwide rights to the project, which is being produced by Teton Ridge Entertainment. Ice Cube's Cube Vision is also involved.

Deadline first reported on the Teton Ridge Entertainment production of "Outside Man" in April 2025.

Focus Features' slate

The acquisition adds to a busy period for Focus Features. "Obsession," directed by Curry Barker, became the label's highest-grossing film ever, taking over half a billion dollars worldwide this year. The label will release Robert Eggers' "Werwulf" on Christmas Day, and has "Elsinore" from Simon Stone starring Andrew Scott, Georgia Oakley's adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility," Sarah Polley's "The Bell Jar" starring Billie Eilish, and Curry Barker's "Anything But Ghosts" in early May 2027.

Teton Ridge Entertainment, meanwhile, received a full-series order from Netflix for "Lonesome Dove," with Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart set to adapt, and has acquired Western IP including "High Noon" from Stanley Kramer, Louis L'Amour's "Fallon," and the life rights of John Wayne.
