Gladys Prequel Awaits Final Draft; Skydance to Seek Director

Script development on Gladys is progressing smoothly and awaiting a final draft, after which Skydance will begin searching for a director, according to Deadline.

Script development on the Aunt Gladys prequel film Gladys is proceeding smoothly and the project is awaiting a final draft, according to Deadline. Once that draft is complete, Skydance will begin its search for a director. Zach Cregger will not return to direct the film.

Gladys is scheduled to hit theaters on September 8, 2028. Skydance Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein are handling the upcoming theatrical titles developed by Warner Bros.

The prequel was originally announced following the release of Zach Cregger's movie Weapons last year. Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. raised doubts about whether the Gladys project would move forward.

Cregger initially planned to include Aunt Gladys' origin story in Weapons but it was removed during production. Following the box office success of Weapons, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema started exploring ideas for a prequel.

Amy Madigan won a Critics' Choice Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Weapons. The film holds a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Cregger's second-best-rated film. Cregger most recently directed Resident Evil, which grossed over $250 million worldwide.
