Warner Bros. sets Gone with the Wind 4K UHD release for November 3

The restored classic arrives in standard, SteelBook and Walmart-exclusive collector's editions, sourced from an 8K scan of raw celluloid.

Warner Bros. has restored Gone with the Wind and will release it on 4K UHD on November 3, according to movieweb.com. The title will be available as a standard 4K edition, a 4K UHD SteelBook and a collector's edition sold exclusively at Walmart.com.

The restoration scanned raw celluloid film at 8K and mastered it on disc at 4K. Bonus features include a 2019 TCM Film Festival panel hosted by historian and author Donald Bogle, and a discussion between Bogle and TCM host Ben Mankiewicz about the film's depiction of slavery.

The set also carries a featurette on the film's Atlanta premiere, held on December 13 and 14, 1939. New documentaries in the package include Scarlett O'Hara: A Woman Ahead of her Time and Gone with the Wind: The Influence that Endures, alongside a 38-minute archival remembrance by Olivia de Havilland.

Gone with the Wind was released on December 15, 1939, and was the first film shown on Turner Classic Movies. Hattie McDaniel later won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film; she did not attend the Atlanta premiere because of Jim Crow laws.
