Greengrass hopes Damon returns for next Bourne film
The Bourne director said on the Rest Is Classified podcast that he does not know if Damon will be back, but believes the studio is still trying.
Paul Greengrass, who directed several films in the Jason Bourne series, said he hopes Matt Damon returns to the franchise and believes an effort is still under way to bring him back. He made the comments on the Rest Is Classified podcast, as reported by Collider.
Greengrass said he does not know whether the franchise will bring Damon back, but that he believes the studio is still making an attempt.
Damon has played Jason Bourne across multiple instalments. The fifth film, Jason Bourne, was released in 2016 with Damon back in the lead role; the fourth, The Bourne Legacy, starred Jeremy Renner and was not directed by Greengrass.
In 2023, a sixth Bourne film was officially greenlit with Edward Berger attached to direct. Berger at one point expressed doubts about whether he would ultimately direct it, and Damon was uncertain about returning, citing his age as a possible obstacle.
Earlier in 2026, Damon said he and Berger were working to settle on a story that could bring him back.
