Greenland 2: Migration Becomes HBO Max Hit After $45M Box Office Flop
The Gerard Butler sequel, which grossed $45 million against a $90 million budget, is now one of the most-watched titles worldwide on HBO Max.
Greenland 2: Migration has become one of the most-watched titles worldwide on HBO Max, according to Collider. The film, which also streams in the US on the platform, struggled in theaters, grossing only $45 million against a $90 million budget.
The sequel stars Gerard Butler and arrived in theaters with a $90 million budget. Its theatrical gross of $45 million marked a significant shortfall, but its performance on HBO Max has been notably stronger.
Butler's recent theatrical track record includes the 2025 live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, which became the highest-grossing film of his career. A sequel to that film is set for release in 2027.
Another recent example of a film finding a larger audience on streaming is Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which failed to gross $60 million against a $40 million budget and later became one of the most-watched movies of the year on Netflix.
