Jessica Rothe Says Happy Death Day 3 Story Is Ready With Time Jump
Jessica Rothe says she and Christopher Landon reconceived Happy Death Day 3, setting it years after college with Tree Gelbman now an adult.
Jessica Rothe has revealed that she and writer/director Christopher Landon broke a new story for Happy Death Day 3, with the film jumping forward in time to follow Tree Gelbman's post-college adult life. Rothe shared the news in a new interview, according to joblo.com.
Rothe said she met with Landon earlier this year to reconceive the project together, and that the two broke the story in that session. The time jump marks a change of setting for the series, which previously followed Tree through a single repeated day on a college campus.
According to Rothe, the core premise and hook of an earlier script remain in place, but they are now incorporated differently. She added that the team is hoping to shoot the film soon if everything aligns.
A long wait for the final chapter
Happy Death Day 3 was in the works even before the release of the second film in 2019, and fans have been waiting seven years for the third and final chapter of Tree Gelbman's story. Rothe said last month that the project was waiting on studios to sign off.
Rothe currently appears in Beware Boiúna, which is in release and also stars Kiana Madeira and Logan Marshall-Green. No release date has been announced for Happy Death Day 3.
