HBO Developing 'The Birds' Limited Series With Sarah Snook
Sarah Snook will play Myra Massey in HBO's limited series reboot of The Birds, written by Tom Spezialy and produced by David Heyman.
HBO is developing a limited series reboot of The Birds, with Sarah Snook set to star as a new protagonist named Myra Massey, according to screenrant.com.
In the series, Myra returns to her hometown to investigate the disappearance of a childhood friend while she is in a custody battle over her daughter. She faces both a serial killer and deadly birds.
Tom Spezialy, a producer on The Leftovers, is writing the series. David Heyman, a veteran of the Harry Potter franchise, is producing.
The project draws on Daphne du Maurier's novella, which Alfred Hitchcock adapted into a 1963 film that holds a 96% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Earlier attempts to revisit the material did not reach the screen: a remake of The Birds was announced in 2007 and a BBC show based on the novella was announced in 2017, but neither materialized.
